They search troubled waters for boaters in distress and patrol the calm blue for swimmers in over their heads. The Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, which protects all of L.A. County, goes on about 250 search and rescue cases annually. To prepare, they follow that adage: Practice makes perfect.
