Labor Department Postpones ‘Good Guys’ List: The government shutdown was blamed for the postponement of the listing of apparel retailers and manufacturers judged to be making extra efforts to avoid doing business with sweatshop contractors. The release date of the list, intended as a consumer guide, was changed from Nov. 24 to Dec. 5. A department spokesman said the change is necessary because of the large number of companies that submitted information in hopes of being named to the list and the lack of personnel available to review the material. Industry groups, led by the National Retail Federation, have protested the department’s plans, but the spokesman said that did not figure in the change.
