Stocks Rise as Investors Seek Haven: Analysts said big gains in the market there last week are a sign that investors have been moving funds from other, riskier markets in Asia. Takuya Omori, a portfolio manager for Nikko Asset Management (Singapore), said economic growth of 9% for the third quarter, reported last Monday, suggests Singapore may be a less risky bet for investors concerned about economic conditions in neighboring Malaysia and Thailand. Thai benchmark stocks have fallen 11% and Malaysian stocks almost 7% in the past month. “Singapore has not had the problem of an overheating economy and there is no pressure to raise interest rates to rein in inflation,” said Seah Kiat Seng, a principal of Morgan Stanley Asset Management (Singapore).
