Valleywide : Periods of Fog May Ease by Thanksgiving

Share

Forecasters are expecting pleasant weather for Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, and the dense morning fog that has been troubling travelers could lift by the holiday, the National Weather Service reported Sunday.

“Everything is going to remain much the same through the rest of the week,” said Dennis Tussey, a weather service spokesman in Oxnard. “Perhaps the marine layer will get a little deeper and we’ll have a little less dense fog later in the week.”

A storm system in the Pacific Northwest was responsible for fog that delayed flights at Burbank Airport last week, Tussey said. The storm forced a high-pressure system over Southern California that created intense fog by pushing down the coastal marine layer--a band of cooler, moist ocean air that occasionally works its way into the San Fernando Valley.

As the marine layer expands later in the week, the density of the morning fog could ease, Tussey said.

Otherwise, temperatures in the Valley should be in the 80s until at least Thanksgiving, Tussey added.

High temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s in Burbank and Van Nuys today.

In the West Valley, temperatures should be in the upper 80s.
