SMALL FACES: There’s another Lennon voice returning to the pop front besides John’s. Julian Lennon has recorded “Cole’s Song,” which he wrote with Michael Kamen for the upcoming Richard Dreyfuss movie “Mr. Holland’s Opus.” The film soundtrack also features the solo debut by Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman, with a song he wrote and performed called “Visions of a Sunset.” However, he says that he has no plans for a solo album. The film premieres in L.A. Dec. 29 and the album is due Jan. 9. . . .

Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt and Heartbreaker Tom Campbell all guest on Taj Mahal’s upcoming album, due in February. . . . Former Living Colour bassist Doug Wimbush was brought in to play bass tracks for Depeche Mode’s upcoming album, a departure from the band’s normal electronic method. . . .

Rhino Records has a three-CD Curtis Mayfield anthology, “People Get Ready,” coming Feb. 27. It features 51 tracks, going from his early days with the Impressions through 1990 material recorded shortly before the onstage accident that left him a quadriplegic. . . . Rhino also has a National Lampoon box coming, which includes some of the best pop parodies ever, including dead-on ‘70s spoofs of Neil Young and Bob Dylan. Among those in the cast: John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner and, especially impressive in musical bits, Christopher Guest--who later became Spinal Tap’s Nigel Tufnel. . . .
