Duane F. Schuster, who served as mayor pro tem for the past year, is La Palma’s new mayor.
The City Council last week voted unanimously for him to fill the one-year position. Schuster succeeds Wally D. Linn, who has served two consecutive one-year terms as mayor.
Councilman Kenneth Blake, who was elected in November, 1994, was chosen mayor pro tem.
Schuster, 64, a retired meat cutter, has lived in La Palma 25 years and was elected to the City Council three years ago.
Schuster said he hopes to focus on renovation of El Rancho Verde Park and street improvements, including some new traffic lights.
