Wolfram F. Hanrieder; UCSB Expert on German Foreign Policy

Wolfram F. Hanrieder, 64, internationally recognized authority on German foreign policy. A professor of political science at UC Santa Barbara since 1967, Hanrieder had written several books, including “Germany, America, Europe: Forty Years of German Foreign Policy,” first published in 1989. Germany awarded him its Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit in 1991. Born in Munich, Hanrieder was educated at Ludwigsgymnasium in that city, the University of Chicago and UC Berkeley. He taught at Princeton before going to UC Santa Barbara. He lectured around the world and held guest professorships at institutions including universities in Bologna, Italy, and Munich, Germany. On Nov. 22 in Santa Barbara of cancer.
