Sierra Antifreeze Settles Charges of False Advertising: Unable to prove to the Federal Trade Commission that its product is essentially nontoxic, Safe Brands Corp., a subsidiary of Omaha-based Warren Distribution Co., agreed to add label warnings that the product could be harmful if swallowed. Arco Chemical Co., a subsidiary of Los Angeles-based Atlantic Richfield Co., was also a party to the agreement because it provides propylene glycol, the antifreeze’s principal ingredient. “The FTC was concerned that some of our early advertising may have inadvertently communicated a claim of ‘absolutely safe,’ ” a Safe Brands spokesman said.
