Anthony Machado; Interior Designer and Artist

Anthony Machado, 48, nationally known interior designer whose work included the West Hollywood restaurant Palette. Machado, who worked in San Francisco before establishing his Melrose Avenue studio 15 years ago, designed the popular but short-lived restaurant’s interior in 1984. Its novel salmon-hued, two-tiered decor featuring bowling balls was displayed on a cover of Architectural Digest magazine. After three of his other interior designs also qualified as covers for that prestigious publication, Architectural Digest named Machado one of its top 100 interior designers in the nation. He had decorated palaces for members of the Saudi Arabian royal family and recently decorated the Pacific Palisades home of Laker basketball star Vlade Divac. Machado exhibited his original art in a one-man show at the Jan Turner Art Gallery in Los Angeles. On Nov. 11 in Fresno of the complications of AIDS.
