COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Northridge Hurt Again by Poor Shooting

The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team had trouble finding the basket Saturday night, shooting only 27% from the field in a 95-37 loss to Northern Arizona in a nonconference game in Flagstaff, Ariz.

The Lumberjacks’ 95 points ties a school single-game record.

Sarah Bell tried to cure the Matador shooting woes, coming off the bench to score 14 points on seven of eight shooting. But Bell was the only player for Northridge (1-3) who scored in double figures.

Radford 70, Pepperdine 65--The Waves (1-2) jumped to a 41-39 halftime lead but couldn’t hang on in the first round of the Malibu Classic at Pepperdine.

Lisa Siders scored 17 points and Sara Pierce added 12.

Cal State San Francisco 67, Cal Lutheran 64--All five starters scored in double figures for the Regals in a nonconference game at San Francisco State.

Ventura 84, Valley 61--Adria Sneed had 23 points and 12 rebounds and Marina Torres had 14 points and seven assists for the Pirates (7-0) in a semifinal game of the College of the Sequoias tournament in Visalia.

Valley (5-2) was led by Shawanda Hotchkiss and Valery Brady with 18 points each.

MEN

Valley 92, Barstow 81--Mack Cleveland scored 16 points and Vernon Simmons added 14 as the Monarchs (6-2) defeated Barstow (8-5) in the third-place game of the Barstow tournament.

Harbor 74, Moorpark 70--Tim Nunnery scored 28 points and Brady Mertes added 13, but the Raiders (3-5) lost a nonconference game to the Seahawks at Harbor.
