IPO Volume Plummets in November: The fall in the number of initial public offerings filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission suggests a decrease in new investment opportunities early next year. Between Nov. 3 and Nov. 24, companies filed 36 initial offerings to raise a total of $1.19 billion, according to the latest statistics available from the SEC’s division of corporation finance. That compares to 84 filings for about $5.4 billion in September, and 106 filings for around $4.1 billion in October, the SEC said. The drop off is considered unusual, given the recent performance of the Dow Jones industrial average, which hit six consecutive record highs in late November and is up 33% for the year.
