Pentagon Takes Cost-Saving Step: The agency hopes to save hundreds of millions of dollars a year by allowing defense contractors to use the same manufacturing processes for military equipment that they do for commercial products. The department said it will allow plants that are often forced to use unique production processes for military hardware to change those steps where practical for commercial use.
