Hitzelberger Is Named to New Position at Del Taco

* Paul W. Hitzelberger has been named to the new position of executive vice president of brand strategy and franchise development/relations for Del Taco Inc. He will continue as the company’s marketing head until a replacement is found. Hitzelberger is an equity owner in the privately held company and a member of the five-person executive board. He has been executive vice president of marketing since 1989 and was a vice president of the company for two years before that.

* Katherine C. VanDeusen has been appointed director of leasing for the Craig Group, a Newport Beach developer and manager of value-oriented shopping centers. Before joining the company, she was a vice president and regional director of leasing with the O’Connor Group of New York, responsible for the leasing and remerchandising of several regional shopping centers throughout Southern California, including the Laguna Hills Mall.

* Tony Malana has joined Unit Instruments Inc., a Yorba Linda manufacturer of mass flow controllers for the semiconductor industry, in the newly created position of manufacturing engineering manager. He was previously manufacturing engineering manager at Rosemount Analytical. In addition, Rashmikant Patel has been named to the new position of information systems director. He was formerly manager of systems development for AST Research Inc.

* Terry Kennell has been named to the newly created position of vice president of customer services for Colorbus Inc., an Irvine software and hardware developer. He previously spent 13 years with Delta Business Systems, most recently as director of support. Don Krysinski has been appointed vice president of marketing. He joined the company earlier this year as director of sales. Before that, Krysinski had been a principal at Point 4 Data Corp. and held marketing and product development positions at Standard Logic and MAI International.

* Terry Merrell-Boyle has joined the Costa Mesa office of Roscoe/Cottrell, a division of PRA Inc., a destination management company, as national sales manager. She was formerly group show director of International Data Group, and before that, convention service manager at the Anaheim Hilton and Towers.

* Michael L. Comer has been appointed general manager for the new Irvine office of CreativeLeadership Inc., a San Diego-based hiring specialist. He was previously a vice president with John Kurosky & Associates, an Irvine executive search firm and vice president of finance and administration for SynZyme Technologies Inc., an Irvine biotechnology start-up.

* George D. Shambeck has been appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson as the land surveyor representative to the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Shambeck is president of Hall & Foreman Inc., a Tustin civil engineering and land surveying firm.

* Steven H. Sunshine has been named to the newly created position of regional resident manager for the law firm of Bryan Cave. He will direct and manage the operations of the firm’s three Southern California offices. Sunshine joined the Irvine office this year when it combined with Layman, Jones & Dye, where he was managing partner for more than 13 years.

* Helen Mitchell has been appointed regional staff director for AT&T;’s Global Business Communications Systems’ Southwest Division in Irvine. She will oversee field operations in the company’s regional offices in Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico. She was formerly a national sales manager and marketing director in New Jersey.

* Mike Pennell has been named director of product strategy for Platinum Software Corp. in Irvine. Pennell has been with Platinum since 1992, in the roles of systems engineer, product manager and manager of applications design.

* Cynthia Chiles has joined ENSR, an environmental services firm, as senior program manager for its Costa Mesa office. She was previously an independent environmental auditor for her own company, Chiles Environmental Services.

* Sheldon Metz has been appointed director of conventions for the National Nutritional Foods Assn. in Newport Beach. He formerly operated his own events industry consulting business in Venice. Metz also held management positions with Live-Time Inc. and Advanstar Expositions. Also, Joseph Adams has joined the association as director of membership. He previously managed a Convention Center and County Fair Bureau in Washington for two years.

* Alan Blenner has been named manager of Bank of America’s Southern California Consumer Loan Center in Brea. Blenner joined the bank in 1985 after holding consumer lending positions at Citibank and Wells Fargo Bank. He was previously head of B of A’s Northern California Consumer Loan Center in Rancho Cordova and manager of the Consumer Loan Recovery Management, Collateral Sales and National Student Loan Center units. Blenner was named a senior vice president in 1992.

* Frank Moldstad has been named editor-in-chief and associate publisher of PC Graphics & Video magazine, an Advanstar Communications publication. Moldstad was previously group editor of Advanstar’s six-magazine Santa Ana division. He succeeds Gene Smarte, who was named editor-in-chief of Cadalyst magazine.

* Mike McKennon has been named senior manager in the audit department of Corbin & Wertz, an Irvine accounting and business consulting firm. He had been a manager for three years. In addition, Sharon Guiterrez and Karen Mauer were appointed senior accountants in the audit department, and Dan Whittaker was named senior accountant in the tax department.
