As one of his last official acts, Gov. Brereton Jones on Monday restored Watergate conspirator Jeb Stuart Magruder’s right to vote.

Magruder, now a minister, spent seven months in prison for trying to cover up the break-in at Democratic National Committee headquarters in 1972. The break-in and cover-up led to the fall of Richard Nixon’s presidency.

Even though Magruder was convicted of a federal crime, obstruction of justice, Jones apparently had the authority to restore Magruder’s right to vote.
