Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : HIV-Positive Soldier Charged in Assault

The Army announced it had filed assault charges against a soldier for having unprotected sex with a female soldier and not informing her that he was HIV-positive. Spec. Kevin Barrows at Ft. Drum, in upstate New York, violated a Defense Department safe-sex policy for those who test positive for the virus that causes AIDS, an Army spokesman said, who added it was unclear whether the woman was infected during the encounter.
