The Utah Grizzlies got two goals and one assist from Barry Nieckar and superb goaltending from Tommy Salo to shut out the Ice Dogs for the first time this IHL season, 4-0 Wednesday night at the Delta Center.

Although the Ice Dogs outshot the Grizzlies, 36-31, it was special teams that made the difference.

Utah converted on three of six power-play chances and the Ice Dogs, who led the league with the best power-play percentage going into the game, failed to capitalize on any of their five chances.

Micah Aivazoff and Mike MacWilliam also scored for Utah.

After four tries, the Ice Dogs (15-10-3) have yet to win a game against the Grizzlies (19-6-2).

Los Angeles remains in second place in the Southwest Division, seven points behind Salt Lake and 17 points behind first-place Las Vegas. The three teams lead the Western Conference.

Earlier Wednesday, the Ice Dogs traded left wing Clark Donatelli to the IHL’s Detroit Vipers for left wing Jozef Cierny and center Dave Smith.
