Countywide : Toys for Tots Appeals for Donations of Gifts

For a second Christmas in a row, Toys for Tots is struggling to come up with enough donated toys for needy Orange County youngsters.
Organizers said they need about 80,000 more toys to reach their goal of 100,000 gifts, which they are trying to collect before Dec. 22.
Donors are asked to spend no more than $5 to $10 for a new toy, and to donate presents unwrapped.
The program serves children up to 14, but especially is in need of toys for youngsters 12 years and older, said Staff Sgt. Pete Diaz, who coordinates the Marine Corps-run program for the county.
Donors can turn in gifts at local and county fire stations and to Marine Corps facilities in El Toro and Tustin, as well as to local Shell and Mobile gas stations, Diaz said.
The 49-year-old program collects new toys for 91 social service agencies and churches around the county that distribute the items to needy children.
