Fuming

I was appalled by the fashion shot of actress Ione Skye with a cigarette dangling from her mouth (“Downtown Detour,” Style, Nov. 12). With the rise of lung cancer, emphysema and other tobacco-related ailments, how could you feature this filthy habit? We are having enough trouble finding proper role models for the younger generation without this.

If the producers of the fashion layout didn’t already know the facts about tobacco, they could have read The Times’ own articles on the subject, including the excellent one that same day about Russia’s problems with alcohol and tobacco.
