Hoechst to Restructure Drug Unit Worldwide: The German chemicals group unveiled plans for a dramatic restructuring of its pharmaceuticals business in the next two years, which includes site closings and job cuts. About 8,000 jobs are expected to be eliminated in the pharmaceuticals division as Hoechst integrates French unit Roussel Uclaf and recently acquired U.S. group Marion Merrell Dow into Hoechst Marion Roussel, sources close to Hoechst said. A company spokesman said details on the restructuring will be released today only after employees in France and the United States have been informed.
