OJAI : Mentor Programs Offered to Students

Share

The Living Treasures program of Ojai is inviting students of all ages to experiment with new ideas and develop their talents with the help of mentors nominated by the community for their expertise in their respective fields.

The mentors are an eclectic group of individuals with interests ranging from nonfiction writing, composing and filmmaking to physical fitness and health. They include an Academy Award-winning filmmaker, a Grammy Award-winning musician, physicians, teachers, a yoga instructor and many others. They work as mentors for a minimum of one year, and the nonprofit program is sustained through community donations.

Sessions are available in arts, communication, community service, education, environment, finance, government, health, human relations, physical fitness and technology. A program may include anything from traditional classroom talks to camping trips.

For students interested in Japanese folk art and flower arrangement, mentor John McMullen is holding a class Jan. 17 at his private museum in Ojai. Eleanor Brown is conducting an armchair yoga class the same day at the Oaks Spa.

Admission is free. For more information, call Paula Spellman at 646-9590.
