Refrigerator Labeling: Three U.S. refrigerator manufacturers settled an environmental lawsuit by agreeing to provide more information on ozone-depleting chemicals. The suit involves General Electric Co., Raytheon Co. unit Amana Refrigeration Inc., and Whirlpool Corp.; and retailers Sears, Roebuck & Co., Circuit City, Circuit City Stores West Coast Inc., Montgomery Ward and Basic Living Products. The manufacturers agreed to add labels that will probably say that the appliance’s insulation contains HCFC-141b, a chemical known to deplete the Earth’s ozone layer. The labels now often say nothing about HCFC.
