Newsprint Maker Donohue to Buy Quno for $809.9 Million: The Quebec City-based company said it agreed to buy rival forest products company Quno Corp. for $809.9 million in cash and stock. The acquisition would create the third-biggest newsprint maker in North America with about $800 million in sales, based on 1994 revenue. Quno, based in St. Catherines, Ontario, was put up for sale in September when newspaper publisher Tribune Co. said it wanted to sell its 53% stake, said James Lawn, Quno’s chief financial officer. Chicago-based Tribune, which wants to concentrate on its media business, approved the acquisition. Tribune expects after-tax proceeds of about $330 million from the sale.
