Sequels of ’95 : Life Returns to Normal for the Other Nicole Simpson

Share

Understandably, the world of Nicole Simpson, an executive at a Westside advertising agency, was rocked in the weeks and months that followed the murder of the Brentwood woman with whom she shared a name.

Her West Los Angeles telephone number was punched up nonstop by reporters hoping to speak with friends of the deceased, to beat the competition with some nugget of information that no one else had. Her credit cards were summarily canceled. Ditto restaurant reservations.

After the story of this Nicole Simpson appeared (“What’s in a Name? The Trial of a Lifetime,” Aug. 20), a second round of attention began with the media focusing on the odd luck of sharing a name with one of the most famous murder victims in memory.

Simpson was featured on radio and television shows around the country. “I don’t know why, as a person in advertising, I was surprised by all the attention,” she said. “I was a little overwhelmed.”

She says stunned reaction to her name has dropped off since the verdicts, but she still raises eyebrows now and then.
