MOORPARK : Donor Offers Comfort to Boys & Girls Club

Share

Warm winters and cool summers.

That’s what the kids of the Boys & Girls Club in Moorpark can look forward to in the future, thanks to a gift from an anonymous donor.

The donor, a resident of Reno, gave the club $30,225 to purchase and install a heating and air-conditioning system.

“It gives us a great shot in the arm,” said Jim Stueck, the club’s treasurer. “We are really, really excited.”

The anonymous donor had helped Boys & Girls clubs in the past, said Tony Linton, president of the board of directors of the Moorpark club, which is located in the gymnasium of the old Moorpark High School.

“The gymnasium had an obsolete heating system,” Linton said. “It gets very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer.”

The club’s executive director, Toni Sarcinella, learned about the Reno philanthropist at a meeting of club directors, Linton said.

The Moorpark club then put out bids to find out the cost of the heating and air-conditioning system and applied for the gift. The donation was made to match the bid.

Linton, who has been president of the board for two years, said it was his goal to get the new heating system for the club before his tenure expired in 1996.

“We have preliminary plans from the contractor,” Linton said. “We will begin work no later than March.”
