U.S. Says Economic Reports Will Be Delayed: The Labor Department said it will be forced to delay reports on December employment and consumer and producer prices that were originally scheduled for release in early January, because of the budget impasse. Bill Barron, deputy commissioner at the department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, said the delay was due to the ongoing partial shutdown of the government. The December employment and unemployment data were originally scheduled for release on Jan. 5. The report on the producer price index was slated for release on Jan. 11 and the consumer price index report had been scheduled for Jan. 12.
