Devil Worshiper to Face Charges in Mississippi of Enslaving Girl

A federal judge on Wednesday ordered an avowed devil worshiper returned to Mississippi to answer charges that he made a teenager there his “slave,” and then sold her as a prostitute at truck stops in several states.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Elgin Edwards said Danny Walter Schertz, 48, who uses the nicknames “Snakeman,” “Wizard” and “Triple 6,” should return to Mississippi to answer two counts that he transported a teenager across state lines for prostitution.

The judge made the ruling after a brief hearing Wednesday to verify Schertz’s identity.

Schertz was arrested Dec. 9 at Ontario Airport shortly after he arrived there to meet his wife.

Schertz has been charged under the seldom-used federal Mann Act--the so-called White Slave Traffic law.

If convicted, he could face a maximum life sentence and a $250,000 fine.

FBI documents filed in federal court here alleged that Schertz met a 16-year-old, identified in court papers only as “R.D.E.,” when he went to Amory, Miss., in September to establish a Satanic church with the help of two acquaintances.

His plan changed after his acquaintances introduced him to R.D.E. and two other people who wanted to run away because of problems they were experiencing at home, the FBI documents state.

Schertz gave the teenager a slave bracelet and a pentagram, signifying she was his slave, according to the FBI. On the road, Schertz arranged for the teenager to prostitute herself by using his citizen’s band radio in his van to solicit customers at area truck stops. Schertz carried out his scheme across eight states--Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada and California, according to the FBI.
