World IN BRIEF : SRI LANKA : Rebels Renew Offer to Resume Peace Talks

Tamil rebels said they are ready to resume peace talks with the government if the army leaves their captured stronghold in the northern town of Jaffna. The offer, broadcast by the guerrillas’ clandestine radio station, came as a rebel suicide bomber blew himself up in the eastern Batticaloa district, wounding an army officer and badly damaging the vehicle he was traveling in.
