Help Asked in Finding Car That Hit Bicyclist
The California Highway Patrol asked Tuesday for the public’s help in finding a hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a 16-year-old Oxnard youth Monday.
Aaron Thomas was in serious condition Tuesday night with a broken leg and numerous cuts and bruises at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, hospital officials said.
Aaron and a friend were riding their bicycles north along Pacific Coast Highway at Sycamore Canyon at 7:20 p.m. Monday when they decided to cross the roadway to buy a soda at a vending machine at a ranger’s station, CHP Officer Dave Cockrill said.
The two teenagers did not see the car traveling north in the fast lane that hit Aaron, Cockrill said. The other teen, who was not identified by authorities, was not hit.
“The driver never even stopped, even though both of the headlights were broken out,” Cockrill said.
The ranger saw the car as it sped away and described it as an early 1980s light-blue or light-gray Nissan Maxima or Sentra, Cockrill said. The car will have front-end damage, he said.
