Returning Fairness to Junior College Fees

Share

On Nov. 25, there was an article regarding the fee cut for baccalaureate students at community colleges (“Colleges Hope Lower Fees Will Bring Back Students”). As we all know, the Legislature’s attempt to raise revenues backfired. While it may be true that many students couldn’t afford the higher fees, there are also many students like myself who can afford the fees but refuse to buy into that kind of discrimination.

The idea that I would be penalized for having gotten an education (not in California!) was more than I could stomach. So I went to UCLA Extension, where the fees were higher but not discriminatory. Now that the fees are being reduced, I will return to the community college and save myself a 75-mile commute to UCLA.
