Clairol Inc., the large hair products concern, said Monday that it will close its Camarillo plant March 11 and lay off 55 workers.
The company said the plant, which makes hair care and hair coloring products, is being closed as part of a companywide cost reduction program. Most of the work being done in Camarillo will be shifted to Stamford, Conn.
Clairol, which opened the Camarillo plant in 1978, will put the property up for sale.
Clairol is a unit of Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., the New York-based medical and consumer products conglomerate.
