Edison 48, Fountain Valley 40--Chris Gibson had 19 points for Edison (10-7, 1-1), which outscored Fountain Valley, 17-6, in the final quarter. Nathan Strange scored 22 points for Fountain Valley (8-9, 1-1).

Huntington Beach 69, Marina 59--Matt Jones scored 22 points and Keith Belyea added 18 for Huntington Beach (4-12, 1-1).

In the Century League:

Foothill 53, El Modena 52--Trailing by three with 30 seconds remaining, Foothill’s Darren Phipps and Jeff Svicarovich each had steals and layups to give Foothill (5-10, 1-1) the victory. Svicarovich finished with 25 points.

Santa Ana Valley 56, Canyon 44--Ike Harmon scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half for Santa Ana Valley (9-6, 2-0).

Ryan Walker scored 17 points for Canyon (12-6, 0-2).

Villa Park 55, Orange 47--Eric Chenowith scored 18 points to lead eight-ranked Villa Park (13-3, 2-0). Steve Lein scored 13 points for Orange (9-8, 1-1).

In the Empire League:

Century 48, Loara 41--Hector Beltran scored 19 points, had seven assists and four steals in the league opener for Century (11-6, 1-0). Mark Moses scored 16 points for Loara (9-7, 0-1).

El Dorado 65, Cypress 45--Kevin Sweet had 24 points and nine assists and Ryan Tenpas had 18 points and 10 rebounds for visiting El Dorado (10-7, 1-0) in the victory over Cypress (13-4, 0-1), ranked ninth in the county.

The Hawks defense, led by sophomore Mike Gartner, limited Cypress’ Chad Boberg to eight points. Boberg was averaging 24.5 points. Wes Bunn scored 19 points for Cypress, which was outscored, 40-22, in the second half.

Kennedy 57, Katella 53--David Hinojos had 15 points and seven assists for visiting Kennedy (5-12, 1-0). Jacob Kunz scored all eight of his points in the second quarter, helping the Fighting Irish lead at halftime, 29-22.

Carlos Romero had 19 points for Katella (12-3, 0-1).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 59, Fullerton 53 (OT)--Buena Park’s Towan Oliver scored 23 points, including seven of his team’s eight points in overtime. Sam Mankiewicz scored 23 points for Fullerton (9-8, 1-1).

Sonora 70, La Habra 43--Jeff Berokoff scored 20 points for seventh-ranked Sonora (14-5, 2-0).

Troy 65, Sunny Hills 42--Jerry Inzunza scored 20 points for host Troy (10-8, 1-1). Sean Granillo scored 20 points for Sunny Hills (7-10, 0-2).

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 60, Garden Grove 37--Scott Ogilive scored 23 points for La Quinta (7-7, 2-0).

Pacifica 54, Santiago 52--Ryan Caraveo scored a basket and was seven of nine from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter for Pacifica. Caraveo finished with 17 points.

Frank Jimenez scored 22 points for Santiago (7-8, 0-3), which lost for the fourth time by two points or less.

Rancho Alamitos 67, Los Amigos 64 (OT)--Paul Lira scored all 12 of Rancho Alamitos’ points in overtime and finished with 19 for the Vaqueros (2-1). Haseem Hicks’ three-pointer with two seconds remaining in regulation tied it, 55-55, for Rancho Alamitos (6-11, 3-1).

John Elsaesser scored 17 points for Los Amigos (8-9, 0-3), which had a chance to tie the game in overtime Gary Burns missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

In the Golden West League:

Santa Ana 47, Servite 44--Danny Rivero scored 16 points for host Santa Ana (10-6, 2-0).

Tustin 68, Ocean View 61--David Lalazarian scored 20 points and Robert Griffin had 19 for second-ranked Tustin (15-3, 2-0).

Westminster 75, Saddleback 71 (OT)--Bradon Fox scored 28 points to lead Westminster (6-11, 1-1).

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 51, Savanna 47--Isaac Camarillo scored 14 points for Anaheim (4-1, 1-0).

Brea Olinda 81, Magnolia 50--Eric Repp scored 18 for Brea Olinda (15-2, 1-0).

Valencia 55, Western 25--Kevin Jackley and Robert Smith each scored 13 points for visiting Valencia (8-7, 1-0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 51, Costa Mesa 37--Jason Mulkay scored 13 points for Aliso Niguel (10-7, 2-0). Josh Weeks scored 13 for Costa Mesa (4-12, 1-1).

Laguna Beach 70, University 69--Teo Moore scored a rebound basket with four seconds remaining to give the Artists (7-9, 1-1) a one-point lead and University did not take a final shot. Damion Pugh scored 19 points for Laguna Beach and Moore added 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Ryan Schachter scored 15 points for University (7-10, 0-2).

Laguna Hills 73, Estancia 60--Laguna Hills outscored Estancia, 26-12, in the fourth quarter. Mike Scaglione scored 24 points for Laguna Hills (11-6, 1-1) in the victory over Estancia (14-4, 1-1), ranked ninth in Division III.

Brandon Casillas scored 20 points for Estancia, which was without leading scorer Chris Candlish.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 48, San Clemente 39--Greg Harlan scored 14 points for host San Clemente (11-7, 1-1), which held Capistrano Valley (11-8, 2-0) to two points in the third quarter.

Mission Viejo 75, Dana Hills 51--Commander King had 16 points and eight assists and Baron Finneran and Gabriel Burt each had 14 for host Mission Viejo (15-4, 1-1), which led at halftime, 33-18.
