U.N. Sees World Economy Growing 3% in 1996: The world economy grew an estimated 2.6% in 1995 and is forecast to grow about 3% in 1996, the United Nations said. A half-yearly update of its 1995 World Economic and Social Survey said output growth in developed countries slowed in 1995 and was expected to remain at 2.5% this year as policy-makers kept inflation low and focused on budget deficits. The U.N. department for economic and social information and policy analysis said developing countries grew 5% in 1995, as expected, with 5.5% forecast for 1996. Economies in transition--mostly former Soviet Bloc countries moving toward a market economy--were on track for their first year of overall growth in 1996 after declining less in 1995 than in previous years.
