City Official Resigns to Take Tustin Position

Elizabeth Binsack, the city’s community development director since 1992, has resigned to take the same position with the city of Tustin.

Binsack, who joined Los Alamitos’ staff in 1991 as the planning services manager, is the fourth employee to depart in the past month. City Manager Robert C. Dunek was hired away by Lake Forest in December, City Clerk Donna Velin moved to a similar position in Orange, and longtime secretary Pat Maxwell retired.

Mayor Robert P. Wahlstrom, speaking for the City Council at this week’s meeting, told Binsack, “We will miss you desperately but wish you nothing but the best.”

Wahlstrom and his colleagues attributed the string of departures to Los Alamitos’ size and its wisdom in hiring. Though it is a small city with a relatively small budget, it has recruited highly qualified employees whom other municipalities lure away, officials said.

The council also approved increases in some of the city’s licensing fees. The new charges apply mainly to adult-oriented businesses.
