Knight-Ridder to Sell Financial Unit: The publishing and information company, best known for its 31 U.S. newspapers, said it hired Goldman, Sachs & Co. to review its strategic options with regard to Knight-Ridder Financial as it bows out of the highly competitive field of providing real-time financial news and information on computer screens. Over the last five years, Knight-Ridder Financial’s revenue has almost doubled as the unit grew from being mainly a U.S.-based commodities news and information service to a worldwide operation with broad financial coverage. However, the unit has continued to be dwarfed by more established financial news and information rivals such as Reuters, Dow Jones and Bloomberg Business News. Knight-Ridder Inc., publisher of the Miami Herald and other newspapers, is based in Miami.
