UC Irvine Women Beat Titans Despite Their Poor Shooting

Despite making only 29.5% of its field-goal attempts, UC Irvine defeated Cal State Fullerton, 66-58, Saturday night in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game at UC Irvine.

UC Irvine (7-7, 2-3) outrebounded the Titans, 53-34, including 24 on the offensive end. Leticia Oseguera and Sabrina Roberson each had 12 rebounds for UCI.

Oseguera led the Anteaters with a career-high 26 points, including 12 for 12 from the free-throw line. Shayla Bradshaw scored 20 points and Dee Braxton had 16 for the Titans (3-11, 0-5).

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Biola 69, Concordia 63--Sonia Stewart scored 23 points to lead Biola (8-8, 1-0) in the conference opener. Angela Sather scored 26 points and had 14 rebounds for Concordia (12-5, 1-1).

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:

Biola 83, Concordia 81--Jason Ridgeway made a basket at the buzzer to lead Biola (15-3). Ridgeway had 23 points. Greg O’Hagan scored 16 points for Concordia (12-4).

Westmont 97, Southern California College 78--Jason Janeski scored 23 points and had six rebounds for SCC (9-7, 1-1).

In the UC Irvine men’s volleyball tournament:

UC Irvine 3, San Diego State 1--Chris Harger had 24 kills and Cory Hinkle recorded 58 assists to lead UC Irvine (3-0), 15-5, 13-15, 15-10, 15-12. Lars Winter had 20 kills for San Diego State (0-2). In an earlier match, UC Irvine defeated Loyola Marymount, 15-17, 15-4, 15-9, 15-13, behind 24 kills and 13 blocks by Harger.

In nonconference men’s volleyball:

Long Beach State 3, Cal State Northridge 0--Tom Hoff had 22 kills, Geoffrey Cryst had 20 kills and Steve Walker had 53 assists for Long Beach State, which won, 15-6, 15-12, 15-10.
