Vons Market Shuts Doors for Renovations

Got milk? Better hope so, especially if you shop at the Vons market at 115 W. Main St. in Ventura, which closed Sunday for about 10 days of renovations.

The Mission Plaza store, which opened in June 1984, will undergo an extensive upgrade as part of a chain-wide effort to modernize and streamline store sites, said Vons Companies Inc. spokeswoman Mary McAboy.

The revamped store is scheduled to reopen Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. and will include a hot deli service, a seafood and sushi counter and a Wells Fargo banking center.

Vons doesn’t release cost figures for its upgrades, said McAboy, but it is springing for reopening festivities. “There’ll be balloons, product samplings, giveaways, and of course, food,” she said.
