Changes in Building Rules to Be Pondered

Share

Simi Valley may soon change its rules governing the rehabilitation of some older buildings.

The city’s Planning Commission tonight will discuss proposed revisions to the city’s rehabilitation standards for commercial and industrial buildings, revisions designed to give building owners more flexibility in refurbishing older structures.

Owners would no longer be required to install perimeter landscaping along their property lines, as long as landscaping covered a minimum of 10% of the total building site. Structures built or approved before July 21, 1986, could be considered for rehabilitation permits, now available only for buildings finished before Jan. 1, 1975.

One of the biggest changes would cut the amount of time some owners would spend getting permission from the city to fix their buildings.

All proposed changes must be approved by the City Council.
