World IN BRIEF : WEST BANK : 2 Israeli Soldiers Killed Near Hebron
From Times Wire Reports
Two Israeli soldiers were killed north of Hebron, the only major Palestinian area in the West Bank still under Israeli control. Sgt. Yamit Shimel, 20, and an unidentified officer--reportedly an army doctor--were killed as they drove in a military vehicle from Jerusalem to Hebron by gunmen in a passing car, according to an army statement. Army Radio said an anonymous call claimed that the attack was in revenge for the Jan. 5 killing of Islamic militant bomb-maker Yehiya Ayash.
