Countywide : Essay Contest Offers 10 $1,000 Scholarships

An essay contest that will award $1,000 scholarships to 10 students is open to high school sophomores and juniors until April 1.

The nationwide contest, sponsored by Kaplan Educational Centers and Newsweek magazine, asks students to answer in 500 words the question: “What would you change about the educational system in the United States?”

Winners will be chosen based on their demonstration of outstanding writing skills.

Participants must be enrolled in an accredited high school as of Jan. 1. Complete contest rules and entry forms are available from guidance counselors or by calling (800) 527-8378.
