The Carnegie Art Museum plans to add neighborhood architectural tours and other programs to its offerings, thanks to $5,240 it has received in community donations.

The Oxnard City Council is set to approve placing the money in the museum’s account tonight. Suzanne Bellah, the museum’s director, said the money will be used to pay for a part-time museum education assistant and for a part-time membership coordinator.

“We have a small staff,” Bellah said. “We need additional help. We are hoping this provides a new way to augment our staff.”

Located at 424 South C St. near Plaza Park, the museum employs a full-time director and two part-timers. Bellah said the museum education assistant will work 12 to 16 hours a week through the end of June, leading students and adults on architectural tours in the area surrounding the museum.

The museum features exhibits by national and regional artists, including a gallery space for Ventura County artists.
