Emulex Takes $2.9-Million Loss

Emulex Corp. posted a second-quarter loss Thursday on a sharp drop in revenue.

The Costa Mesa computer-products company said it lost $2.9 million, or 49 cents a share, for the fiscal quarter ended Dec. 31, compared with a profit of $1.3 million, or 21 cents a share, for the same quarter a year ago. Revenue declined 31% to $12.7 million from $18.3 million.

The company attributed the lower results to reduced sales to computer manufacturers. These sales accounted for 34% of the company’s revenue in the second quarter of 1995, compared with 54% a year ago, Emulex said.

For the first half, the company lost $6.4 million, or $1.08 a share, contrasted with a profit of $2 million, or 32 cents a share, for the first six months a year earlier. Revenue fell 37% to $23.1 million from $36.8 million.
