A 31-year-old Pacoima woman was sentenced to 15 days on a Caltrans work crew for altering a losing California lottery ticket to make it look like a $100 winner, officials said Thursday.

Griselda Torres was sentenced Wednesday by Municipal Judge Alan Ellis after pleading guilty to illegally altering a document, said Ted Goldstein, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney.

Torres was also placed on three years’ probation and ordered to stay away from the grocery store where she tried to cash the ticket on Dec. 29, Goldstein said.

The clerk at the store in the 13300 block of Filmore Street initially believed Torres had a winning series of numbers on her ticket and paid Torres $100, Goldstein said. But the clerk then noticed that one of the numbers was altered, chased Torres to the front of the store, and kept her there until Los Angeles police arrived and arrested her.
