Volunteering Opportunities
The San Fernando Valley Literacy Council needs volunteer tutors to teach reading and writing of English. The council holds 12-hour and 18-hour tutor-training sessions on a frequent basis. There is a $25 charge to cover the cost of materials. For more information, call (818) 781-3884.
Holy Cross Home Hospice, along with Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, needs volunteers for clerical assistance, patient care and support and bereavement services. The program allows terminally ill patients to live comfortably until their death. Bilingual applicants are especially needed. The Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Southern California Humane Society need volunteers who want to help animals by participating in the Los Angeles Marathon on March 3 or by soliciting pledges before the event. Athletes can help by running, walking or cycling as part of Team Whippet. Volunteers also are needed to work on the sidelines. For more information, call (213) 730-5300.
