San Diego Museum Given Rare Photos

The Museum of Photographic Arts has acquired 74 photographs documenting much of the history, mood and politics of the Soviet empire during the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s, museum director Arthur Ollman announced. The photographs, which will be added to the San Diego museum’s permanent collection, contain “extremely rare material,” he said.

The gift was donated anonymously by a trustee and longtime supporter of the museum and contains works by the famous Russian combat photographer Yevgeni Kahdei, as well as works by Georgi Kelma, Mikhail Grachev, Emmanuel Evzerikhin, Arkady Shiskin, Mark Redkin, Yakov Khalip, Alexander Ustinov and Max Alpert.

The Museum of Photographic Arts is located in the Casa de Balboa, 1649 El Prado, Balboa Park, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
