For the last nine years, Marge Schneider has been described as the heart and soul of the Fountain Valley Educational Foundation.

But now, Schneider has stepped down as executive director of the foundation, which has raised more than $200,000 for the school district since it was established in 1982.

“I leave with a heavy heart,” said Schneider, who has been the only person to serve as executive director and was one of the organization’s founders.

“I watched it struggle, and then I watched it become very stable and successful, but now it’s time to let go,” said Schneider, whose four children attended school in the district.

Schneider, 58, said she’ll enjoy retirement with her husband, Chris, and the rest of her family.

The district’s Board of Trustees last week recognized Schneider for her contributions and years of service.

The foundation raises money through the business community and support from individuals to enhance the quality of education in the Fountain Valley School District. Among other projects, funds have gone to buy computer equipment and software, classroom materials and library books, and to supplement personnel costs.

Schneider’s position--the foundation’s only paid staffer--will not be filled in order to save money. The executive board will assume her duties.
