Religious Group to Continue Efforts for Cuba

Leaders of Pastors for Peace vowed Thursday to continue their work to aid the Cuban people despite the failure of a plan to haul 300 used computers into Mexico so they could be flown to Havana.

The group said the computers were bound for hospitals and schools, but U.S. Customs Service agents seized them because of the U.S. embargo against aid to the government of Fidel Castro.

Initially, Customs said that 23 computers bought in Canada would be allowed through the Otay Mesa port-of-entry so they could be flown to Havana because Canada does not have the same embargo against Cuba. But Thursday a Customs spokeswoman said those computers were being held to check to see if they have been properly registered for shipment.
