GM Reportedly Not Interested in American Express: BusinessWeek, in its Feb. 12 edition, which reached subscribers Friday, quotes an investment banker as saying that General Motors Corp. executives were interested in American Express Co. But a source close to the auto maker said GM will not attempt to buy the financial services company. Neither GM nor American Express would officially comment on the article. Last week, BusinessWeek said General Electric Co., which owns GE Capital, may be interested in American Express, but GE issued a swift denial. A source familiar with American Express said people at the company are baffled by the takeover talk but thought GE Capital made more sense as a possible buyer than GM did.
