9th Graders Need Time to Adjust to High School
Long ago, in 1952, so far away in languid Walla Walla, Wash., ninth-graders were catapulted into the sophisticated morass of high school, where they were viewed as the lowest possible life form. Mercifully, ninth-graders were later returned to junior high schools. Now, we have apparently forgotten that lesson, or worse, have chosen to ignore it.
At the very least, ninth-graders should be started on a track a week or two ahead of the upper classes in order to make their transition a little less traumatic.
