For the fourth consecutive year, the Civic Center rose garden has won a top award from the All America Rose Selections Committee, a national nonprofit group.

The award, for “outstanding maintenance,” will be presented to city staff at the next City Council meeting, on Feb. 13, officials said.

“Nowhere will you find a more stunning display of beauty and tranquillity,” said Larry Burks, the committee president. “The garden is a real asset to the community.”

Westminster’s garden is one of 138 gardens nationwide that offer previews of new rose varieties before they are available for general sale, officials said.

The garden, at 8200 Westminster Blvd., between Beach Boulevard and Newland Street, contains about 1,600 roses representing 178 varieties chosen by the selection committee for outstanding beauty and novelty.
