‘Diary of a Hitman’

Share

As a psychological study, or even as a thriller, this 1992 release is arch and overwrought in a way that’s compelling without being very good. In the lead, Forest Whitaker (pictured) gives another of his freshly thought-out performances. From moment to moment Whitaker never does anything that you’ve ever seen before, playing a man who has to clamp down on his emotions or he’ll explode. Sherilynn Fenn, as the woman he’s been hired to hit (along with her baby), goes for the fireworks right from the beginning. Sharon Stone, in a small role as her sister, does the same (ABC Saturday at 11:30 p.m.).
